The next few tips will be about the BIGGEST question you probably have— what is exhibiting overseas going to cost—the drayage addition.
What is drayage?
In the US, drayage is typically calculated by the cost per hundred weight (CWT). Here’s what it includes:
- To move an exhibit from the dock to booth space.
- Removal of empty crates
- Storage of empty crates.
- Redelivery of empty crates to booth space.
- Loading of repacked crates onto truck at show close.
The show organizer uses funds collected from drayage fees to print general show signage, pay for aisle carpet, etc.
Is there drayage in Europe? Usually no.
Since the building system is totally different overseas, it makes sense that drayage would be as well. Unlike the US, in Europe, the exhibit builder brings crates & materials to the booth space themselves. Then, the exhibit builder takes the empties, away to store or toss themselves. You could chose to have the show provider store materials or empty crates and skids instead, In that case you would pay a “drayage” fee.
